Installing Kaltura Interactive Video Player for Wordpress

Download the plugin, install it as you would any other plugin for Wordpress and activate. You will be prompted to join the Kaltura Partner Program and then sent a confirmation email with your new signup details.

What does it do?

This plugin allows you to add interactive videos to your Wordpress posts and pages. This plugin not only allows you to upload your own videos through the usual ‘Add Media’ interface but also those of the most popular video serving sites such as Youtube and MySpace as well as Kaltura itself.

Main features of this plugin include:

• Upload and import content directly from player.
• Remix and edit video.
• Annotate with text bubbles and subtitles directly from player.
• Link content to user pages.
• Add rating, report abuse, reputation systems.
• Allow users to create new versions based on current video
• Add dynamic content and overlays such as RSS feeds
• Share and embed widget any where

Using the plugin

Things don’t get easier to use than this folks. The interface is slick and clear with the process of adding a video broken down into steps. Once videos have been added they can be easily accessed again by clicking the ‘Browse Interactive Video’ tab. You also have options to set the level of interactivity, from allowing only administrators to allowing visitors to interact in various ways with the uploaded video. Interaction includes being able to remix the video (great fun), add comments, subtitles and annotations and being able to rate the video. You can even leave video comments on blog posts, go ahead and try, just click the ‘Add Video Comment’ button at the bottom of this post!

Conclusion

I’m glad to say that this open-source video player plugin is probably one of, if not THE best Wordpress plugins I have used to date. Easy to set up, easy to use and above all, great fun. Go grab it for yourself!
