I think its a personal thing really, I prefer my URLs to look uncluttered and the date has no specific importance, but I’m sure there are those who have date related posts and want to show when it was published in the URL. I don;t think it would have any great effect on SEO either way.

Its nice to know you can change the path to just the post title. Is that more highly recommended than having the date included?

Wordpress is a great blogging platform and getting it search engine optimized really isn’t a hard task. Using proper permalinks and robots.txt file to prevent duplicate content and a few other methods can really make a difference. The All in One SEO plugin is really the best bet.
